Rainshadow Permaculture has Relocated to Bellingham!
We have exciting news! After 4 great years on the Olympic Peninsula, Rainshadow Permaculture is relocating to Bellingham.
What we’ll miss. . .
The Peninsula’s stunning landscape, the beautifully rich soil, old growth forests and the Dungeness watershed. Not to mention working with you! I started Rainshadow Permaculture as a dream to help people become closer to the land through growing more food, becoming more resilient, understanding permaculture concepts, and healing damaged landscapes. Since then we’ve worked on hundreds of projects of all different sizes across the Peninsula and beyond. Thanks for believing in us while we got the project off of the ground!
What we’re excited for . . .
Learning Bellingham’s climate: Even though it’s only about 200 miles away, Bellingham’s climate has an entirely new set of opportunities and challenges. With nearly 2.5 times as much annual rainfall as the Olympic Peninsula, hotter summer highs and colder winter lows, and a more varied topography, we’re eager to dive into the region’s distinct microclimates. Learning how these factors shape soil health, plant selection, and water management will allow us to fine-tune our approach to resilient landscape design.
Expanding urban permaculture applications: Bellingham’s urban environment provides a good opportunity to focus on small-scale, high-impact permaculture solutions. We’re looking forward to tackling unique urban challenges such as vertical gardening, rainwater harvesting, edible pollinator corridors, and resilient energy solutions for compact spaces. Helping homeowners, businesses, and communities make the most of limited space will be an exciting shift from our more rural projects on the Peninsula.
Collaborating with local farms and commercial sites: Whatcom County is home to a thriving agricultural community, and we’re eager to bring regenerative design principles to local farms and commercial spaces. From rooftop gardens to food forests, resilient community planning, and innovative farm-scale permaculture, we can’t wait to partner with growers, business owners, and organizations looking to integrate sustainability into their operations. If you have a project in mind, reach out: we’d love to help bring it to life!
